The conversion of an empty storage shed to a communal studio can be seen as the practice’s first project. It was carried out by Arno Brandlhuber together with three fellow students and realized as a do-it-yourself construction. As the facade of the shed was dilapidated, the landlord provided funds for a new bricked wall with two windows. But instead of closing the facade, the student group decided to use glass panels from a building site in Frankfurt, the leftovers of a skyscraper’s new facade. After reducing the roof overhang of the shed, they installed the mullion-transom facade, whose division was defined by the different formats of the glass. As the panels were free of charge, the money saved was used to finance the rent for a year and a half.
